The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of every student by developing confident, independent learners through individualised worksheet study. If you’re considering Maths and English tuition, feel that your child could learn more than they are being taught at school, or perhaps struggles to keep up, we’ll be very pleased to speak to you about your child.

At the Kumon Cambridge Central Study Centre, we welcome children of all ages and abilities to unlock their abilities and develop skills at their own pace. Before starting Kumon, children need to complete a free assessment where I will observe their current level of ability, determine the starting point, identify the next stage of development and draw an individual study projection. Through daily worksheet study, your child will initially settle into the study plan and develop important work skills such as increased stamina and concentration. Progressively the worksheets become increasingly challenging so that your child is engaged, stimulated and motivated to progress through the levels. Your child will develop skills that help in tackling advanced work above his or her school grade level.

About the Instructor

Hello, my name is Lara Miller and I’m the Instructor at the Kumon Cambridge Central Study Centre.

My Kumon journey started eight years ago when I enrolled my eldest son at Kumon. As a Kumon parent, I had the privilege to witness first-hand the benefits of the Kumon Method of Learning. Through worksheet daily practice, my son has become a confident and motivated student who is now working above his school grade level.

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MBA and previously got a Bachelor’s degree in Business in Spain and a Master’s in International Marketing from a French business school. I also speak three languages and I am a certified project manager. Prior to becoming a Kumon Instructor, I ran my own social enterprise and worked for a leading consumer goods company and an internet-based service as Marketing Manager.

Since having my second and third child, I developed an interest in children's learning potential. I can relate to parents who want to give their children the best opportunities in life. I personally believe every child is born with infinite potential and that abilities can be nurtured. My mission is for Cambridge Central Study Centre to discover each student’s potential and develop his or her ability to the maximum. Through the Kumon Method of Learning, students have the opportunity to develop a sense of achievement and self-efficacy that will impact their performance at schools and their daily lives.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
