"Kumon is not always fun because it is challenging, but it is always successful provided parent, Instructor and student work in partnership."

Classes are held at the Cyncoed Methodist Church on the corner of Cyncoed Road and Westminster Crescent, only two minutes' walk from the post office in a southerly direction or, towards the sea!
We meet on Mondays and Thursdays after school from 4.00pm until 6.00pm in the Westminster Hall and on Saturday mornings from 9.30am until 12.00pm in the Epworth room.
Cyncoed Kumon Centre draws its students from Rhydepenau and Lakeside Primary Schools as well as many other primaries in the Llanedyrn, St. Mellons, Lisvane and Pentwyn areas. The main 'feeder' High Schools are Cardiff High and St. Teilo's. More than 30% of my students attend Howells' School, the Cathedral School, King's Monkton and St. John's in St. Mellons.
Following our initial meeting, when you will learn all about the principles of Kumon and how we can train your child in mathematics and English to help them realise their full potential; you will bring your student/s to the centre once or twice weekly. Most students spend about an hour at the centre. They then complete a little homework every day at home; beginning with about 10 minutes and extending little by little along with their understanding of, and interest in, the subject they are studying.
We operate on a 'drop-in' basis - you call when it is convenient for you, during opening hours. Many parents find this strange until they understand that the basis upon which the courses are run is to treat every student as an individual. Each student learns rapidly to work independently and this raises their self-confidence and their self-esteem. This inevitably has a 'knock-on effect' into other areas of their lives, such as dancing, sports and 'treading the boards' as well as their other academic studies. Kumon students develop a 'CAN DO' attitude towards life in general!
Another aspect of Kumon which 'my' parents really like is their own total involvement in the process. By seeing the work their students do every day at home and with the help of a graph which has been fully explained to them, they can follow easily their students' progress.
If you have read the information on the main Kumon site, you will understand that although we refer to our sessions as 'classes' they are not 'taught classes' as at school. This is important for shy, reticent students, as they realise quickly that they are not going to be asked any embarrassing questions in front of others, as each student works on their own, under my guidance.
To arrange an information and assessment appointment with me, or to leave a message, please call me during office hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays, or on Monday or Thursday mornings.
