The centre was opened in 1999 and is located in the RAFA Memorial Hall at the foot of East Hill in central Dartford. The centre operates with a classroom layout; all tables facing the same way to minimise distractions.
The centre is located next to the fast-track bus route, providing easy public transport access and there is plenty of nearby parking within a short walking distance. There is a waiting area for parents and siblings with easy access to a receptionist for queries and payments. The centre is also close to Dartford Library and students are encouraged to sign up and visit the library regularly.
The vast majority of students at the centre attend local schools and currently vary in age from five to 15 years old, highlighting the ability of Kumon to benefit students of all ages and abilities.
The centre is staffed with the Instructor, the centre manager, two senior assistants and four assistants. The centre manager is a former Kumon Instructor.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
