The centre opened in 2008 and is located in St. Leonard's Parish Church, which is close to local schools.
The church itself is easily accessible and classes take place in a well-lit hall. There is a waiting room where tea and coffee are available and all other facilities such as heating, toilets, security and parking are excellent.
The current age range of students attending the centre is four to sixteen years of age. Kumon is suitable for all ages and abilities and the class is structured to suit the learning of every student.
Committed study of the programme has boosted the confidence and self-esteem of many students at the centre, as well as helping them to develop good study habits. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised study.
Classes work on a drop-in basis and each session lasts approximately 30 - 40 minutes. Within the centre, there is an area for new and younger students where they are observed and encouraged to develop skills which will help them work independently.
There is a designated area in the centre for reading and oral number work. Students on the English programme are heard reading before commencing their written work. Maths students complete their worksheets, do oral number work with a senior assistant and are encouraged to use the Numberboard table, where they can develop number sequencing skills in an enjoyable environment.
