A very warm welcome to the Edinburgh, Ravelston Kumon Study Centre. The centre supports many primary and secondary students in the local area with their maths and English learning. It opened its doors in June 2005 and is run by a trained Kimono instructor who is an Honours maths graduate and a registered maths teacher. Word-of-mouth recommendations have played an important part in the successful growth of my centre.

Kumon supports your child's learning with the aim of making their secondary school studies easier. Students can study the maths programme and/or the English programme.

On the maths programme, children develop their numeracy and maths skills as well as concentration, mental agility, accuracy and fluency.
The English programme focuses on reading comprehension skills, but also builds skills in grammar, punctuation, vocabulary and spelling, as well as fostering a love of reading.

Kumon aims to bring confidence to children and develop their self learning ability. Children of all abilities thrive in the Kumon centre as each programme is individualised to their needs. Kumon's personalised study programmes allow students to practice the all-important basic skills at a level relating to their educational needs rather than their chronological age. Equally these programmes allow the brightest students to work to the limit of their ability and attempt much more advanced material than that studied in school. Kumon is a long term programme and students often stay on the programme for a number of years.

At present, students, at the Edinburgh Ravelston centre, range from four to 18 years of age. Some of them have been studying Kumon for over five years.

Students drop in to class at a time to suit themselves during the sessions and are typically present for 30 minutes per subject. Kumon is a unique method of learning. Our ultimate aim is to give your child the best chance of succeeding in school and adult life i.e. to allow them to realise their full potential. Kumon's long term focus provides children with the self-assurance and the transferrable self-learning skills to realise their potential throughout school, and committed study of the programme has boosted many students' confidence and self-esteem as well as providing an excellent programme of work in their chosen subject.
