I want more young people to have a love of language and mathematics and a confidence in their ability to handle words and numbers in any context. Although I have taught maths in High Schools and tutored privately, I felt that my contribution to this goal was quite late in the student's learning process and that the constraints of the school curriculum and class sizes, or in my private tuition the restricted number of students I could fit in to the week and the lack of structured resources, meant that my contribution was also quite limited.
Kumon's experience worldwide over the past 50 years has led to the development of superb materials structured into very effective maths and language programmes which create happy, confident self-learners. When I heard about Kumon I realised that I could make a bigger difference to more youngsters through Kumon.
I love the fact that I can tailor the programme to the needs of each individual student and that the students can progress at different rates according to their own abilities. I also love that the long term aim of the programmes is not just knowledge but a love of learning and the ability to learn independently in any situation and become positive contributors to society. These impressive long-term aims quickly persuaded me that becoming a Kumon Instructor fitted very well with my own life goals.
