Kumon Guildford North is now offering both face-to-face and online classes. Please get in touch to discuss what works best for you and your child.

Core elements of the Kumon programmes include the nurturing of truly independent learners and the development of a daily study habit based on worksheets which are individually tailored to each student's needs and abilities.

A detailed diagnostic assessment of each student before enrolment identifies the student's current abilities relative to their school year group as well as any areas where they may require support. Based upon the initial assessment, a study projection with achievable personalised targets is prepared for the student. The student's progress is then monitored via feedback between student, parent and Instructor, observation at the classes, and achievement tests which are set at the end of each level of the programme.

Through the achievements gained from daily study, Kumon students acquire the confidence and independence that enable them to realise their full potential up to and beyond school year level in their chosen subjects.

The Guildford North Study Centre opened in 2011 and has since then helped many hundreds of students of all ages and abilities to achieve their potential and develop their ability. Many of our students come from schools and areas in Guildford and from further afield, including Aldershot, Godalming, Cranleigh, Horsley and North Hampshire. Students from all areas are welcomed at the centre.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Kumon Guildford North Study Centre.

About the Instructor

Hi, I’m Anna.

I have been the Instructor at Kumon Guildford North for over ten years having started up the Study Centre in 2011. I am a fully qualified Kumon Maths and English Instructor and since opening the Kumon Guildford North Study Centre I have helped many hundreds of children achieve their full potential through the Kumon maths and English programmes we offer.

I have always been interested in education and learning and passionately believe in the importance of early education in providing the best chance of fulfilling our potential and living a meaningful life.

I have a strong belief that "anything is possible" where learning is concerned, and I was motivated to move into the field of education because I wanted to inspire others with the same feeling. I am myself educated to post-graduate level and have a great love of learning, including learning into adulthood.

I was particularly drawn to the Kumon Method of Learning because of its ethos of encouraging students to become independent learners. I believe that this is where a student finds real fulfilment - not depending on others for their achievements but experiencing the self-esteem that comes from seeing the results of their own efforts.

The most rewarding element of my role is to see students benefiting from their Kumon study, particularly when they inform me excitedly that they have achieved something at school that in the past they could not have hoped for.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Kumon Method of Learning, please contact me and I would be delighted to discuss it further.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
