"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"
Class visits usually last for about 30 minutes if studying just maths or English; or about 45 minutes for those students studying both subjects.
At class, students will complete their Kumon for that day so there is no homework on a class day. They will hand in any completed homework and collect new homework for each day until the next class visit.
Newly enrolled students will initially work one to one with a classroom assistant to develop their concentration and study skills.
English students will read aloud to a classroom assistant focusing on accurate reading in the lower levels and also pausing, fluency and expression in the higher levels of the programme.
All students discuss their individual progress with the Instructor, typically looking at monthly or longer term goals and those areas that they may need to focus on or improve to move forward through the programme. There is a motivational sticker system in place with prizes for 50, 100 or 150 saved stickers.
The study centre Classroom Assistants, some of whom have been Kumon students themselves, are available to help your child with the class routine.
There is a parents' waiting area in the lobby of the church hall with activities for younger siblings.
