"I believe Kumon is the reason why my maths has improved, and without it I wouldn't have achieved an A in my GCSE maths and wouldn't have even attempted A-level!"
Students attend class on a drop-in basis, arriving any time between 3.30pm and 4.50pm. A class visit lasts approximately 20-30 minutes per subject. During this time, parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area (there is also a library on site, and tea/coffee is available).
When students arrive at class, they are greeted by our receptionist, who supervises students handing in homework and collecting new work to be completed during the coming week. Students completing a test or moving on to a new topic will come to see me before they begin their work.
English students read to an assistant (one-to-one) before completing their classwork, and maths students do some one-to-one oral work with an assistant once they have completed their work. Whilst the student is completing their class work, their homework is being checked and recorded by my team of assistants. Along with me, the team are on hand to provide guidance where necessary.
All students are then free to choose an activity (including reading a book, completing a number board, wordsearch etc), before completing any corrections. All students must see me before they can leave class and this gives both the student and me the chance to talk about their progress and goals and I can give them appropriate feedback and praise.
We have a sticker system in place at the centre as a motivational tool, and students enjoy collecting stickers to trade in for small prizes. Students are also given a certificate each time they complete a level/pass a test, and we have an Annual Awards Ceremony where the efforts and achievements of all students are formally recognised.
