"Kumon is not always fun because it is challenging, but it is always successful provided parent, Instructor and student work in partnership."
Marie Gibb, Correspondence Instructor

About the centre

Students attend class on a drop-in basis, arriving any time between 3.45pm and 5.15pm on a Tuesday and 4pm and 5.30pm on a Wednesday. Most students attend once a week, and each class visit lasts approximately 20-30 minutes per subject. During this time, parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area.

When students arrive at class they pick up their folder, hand in homework and collect new work to be completed during the coming week. Students are helped through this process until they are familiar with it, but even the youngest students become independent very quickly.

Whilst the students are completing their class work, their homework will be checked and recorded by my team of assistants. My team and I are on hand to provide guidance where necessary. After completing their work all English students read to an assistant (one-to-one), and maths students who have reached the appropriate stage will do oral times tables practice.

All students see myself or my senior assistant before they leave class. This gives both the student and me the chance to talk about their progress and goals, and also allows me to give them appropriate feedback and praise.

We have a sticker system in place at the centre as a motivational tool, and students enjoy collecting stickers to trade in for small prizes. Students are also given a certificate each time they complete a level/pass a test. Students may also have the opportunity to attend regional or national award ceremonies where the efforts and achievements of students are formally recognised.
