About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available In-Centre Class available
The Kumon Redhill Study Centre has been established since 1996 and provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and a wide range of abilities to progress their skills and build key foundations for learning.

Traditional maths and English tuition helps students’ progress, but Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher.

Students' complete daily worksheet study developing ability and fluency gradually over time, progressing in small steps and building confidence. They also visit their local study centre once a week for guidance from their Instructor. Each child is given their own starting point in the programme and they develop at their own pace with the right tailored instruction.

We will set work at just the right level to challenge and keep them engaged, regardless of age or school year. This means that they can strengthen their key skills or progress beyond school grade level without restriction. Kumon offers a cost-effective and convenient way to help your child build strong English and maths skills for a successful future.

We also aim to encourage a passion for reading in all of our students, with books available for them to read in class from Kumon’s Recommended Reading List.

About the Instructor

My name is Varun Singh and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Redhill Study Centre.

After completing my Degree in Hospitality & Business Management from Edinburgh, I worked within the private hospitality sector in major well-known hotel brands in senior leadership roles.

As an experienced corporate trainer for over 15 years and with a passion to support my own child’s development; I embarked on my journey with Kumon initially as a parent few years ago.

Being a Kumon parent, I have seen it first-hand how Kumon’s method has benefitted my own child’s development. The way that Kumon evaluates children’s individual aptitude and tailors their respective learning demonstrates how the development of each child’s ability forms an integral part of Kumon ethos.

I believe that every child is capable of achieving their dreams. My team and I are very compassionate and understanding of each child’s current ability, and we provide a nurturing environment to encourage them to reach their full potential.

I am committed to developing the potential of each individual child to help them achieve success in whatever they want to do in life. Whatever path they wish to take in life; whether they dream to become a scientist, an artist or a mathematician, any student willing to commit to daily Kumon study can achieve greatness!

I look forward to starting your Kumon journey with you and welcoming you to my centre.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
