Meet the students

Sandown and Shanklin Mee the Students KayleyKayley Fan, Kumon student

Kayley began Kumon maths and English at Sandown in Autumn 2007, aged five. The family is originally from Hong Kong and Chinese is their first language.

Kayley is bright, and her parents, Sandy and Mark, were recommended Kumon by relatives as an excellent way to build firm foundations in numeracy, literacy and self-discipline, to ensure she gains a solid and successful education.

"Kayley has definitely improved," says Sandy Fan. "At a recent parents' evening we were told she is at the top for both maths and English, and in maths, she is also the quickest student.

"Some of the stories Kayley reads for her Kumon English are quite complicated. Because English is my second language, I struggle with them, but she can now read them all and is already teaching me!"

Kayley's parents are very busy with a successful restaurant business. She loves that her parents spend quality 'learning' time with her each day as a result of her Kumon studies. "She benefits from both the learning and the extra attention," says Sandy.

Kayley, now aged ten, has also adopted an impressive level of self-discipline. When mum is resting in bed in the morning after a late shift at work, Kayley gets herself up, sits down and does her Kumon work. This kind of commitment to studying is one of the side-benefits of the Kumon programme.
