The Kumon Wokingham Study Centre first opened its doors in 1993, initially offering just the Kumon Maths Programme. In 1999 it became one of the first centres to also offer the Kumon English Programme. The centre now provides worksheet-based Maths and English Study Programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Currently students at the centre range in age from three years old to 16 years old.

Over the last 19 years hundreds of students have passed through the doors of the Wokingham Study Centre and have gone on to further education. For many of these students Kumon has been an influencing factor in helping them to reach their goals.

Many of our students live in the local community and attend schools in the area. Entry into the study centre is limited to students only as this ensures they have a quiet environment within which they are able to flourish and grow, building their independent learning skills and confidence.

Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

About the Instructor

Wokingham - Damo Baliga

My name is Damo Baliga and I am the Instructor at the Kumon Wokingham Study Centre.

I was initially drawn to Kumon whilst my two daughters were studying the Kumon programmes. Kumon instilled in them good study habits which they were able to carry forward to other subjects at secondary school. I really felt the Kumon programmes helped them build a strong foundation from which they could build the right attitude to be independent learners. As a parent I found Kumon a fulfilling, rewarding experience and, as an Instructor, I would love for this to be your experience too.

I have a real passion for instructing children and I am eager to enable them to realise their full potential. I believe each child has the ability to learn and succeed. There are many aspects of being an Instructor that I find rewarding and at the top of my list is experiencing the magical moment when a child makes the transition to a new topic confidently, having mastered a previous level they may have initially found tricky.

I look forward to working alongside you to help your child achieve their full potential.

Please contact me for more information or to enrol your child.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
