Celebrating 50 years of helping children to reach their potential
We are delighted to announce that 2008 sees the 50th Anniversary of Kumon. Fifty years ago Toru Kumon developed a series of unique exercises to help his son to improve his maths skills, marking Takeshi Kumon out as the first ever Kumon student. Today, every minute of every single day there is at least one child somewhere in the world improving their skills using the Kumon Method. So from humble beginnings, we are proud to celebrate the fact that Kumon is currently helping over four million children in 45 countries to reach their potential.

Mathathon
As part of Kumon's 50th anniversary celebrations, study centres across the UK and Ireland are holding a sponsored Mathathon between 26 May and 7 June. On that day students will take part in a ten minute challenge to answer as many single operation sums as possible. The over all aim of the activity is to recap on previously completed work in a fun and competitive environment. The event is open to siblings and friends of existing students. Money raised from the sponsorship will be donated to Save the Children and other local children's charities.
