"It is highly rewarding to be a part of young people's success and to hear reports from school of how they are advancing and often outperforming their peers."
Cath Muscroft, Instructor of the Golborne Study Centre

Kumon Educational UK Annual Conference - a great success!

Leading education franchisor Kumon Educational UK held their annual conference on the 18 and 19 July at the University of Warwick. Around 250 Kumon Instructors who run their own Kumon study centres attended the conference in order to learn more about how to further develop their businesses.

The conference focused on professional development and provided Instructors with support, advice and guidance on how they can develop their centres in order to help more children succeed on the Kumon maths and English programmes. The conference also provided the opportunity to celebrate both Kumon student's and Instructor's achievements and learn from them.

Demonstrating how Kumon always place the students at the heart of all its activity, Natasha Panchal, a former Kumon student was selected to be the Master of Ceremonies for the duration of the conference. Natasha completed the Kumon Maths programme in 2007 and is now studying maths and economics at the London School of Economics. Natasha demonstrated true confidence in the way she presented and gave an insight into the Kumon programme from a student perspective.

Kumon Instructors and other students presented to the franchisees demonstrating best practice and offering invaluable information. The conference also provided the opportunity for Instructors to network and share ideas during instructional focused workshops. A spectacular gala dinner celebration took place on the Saturday evening where long service awards were presented to Instructors.

The special Inspirational Instructor of the Year award was presented to Brenda Peake of the North Cheam Kumon Study Centre. Brenda took over the centre in September 2006 and has since made rapid progression in relation to both centre growth and instructional method. Brenda has always been heavily involved in instructional development and constantly strives to improve her centre, so that each and every one of her students can advance and reach their potential.

Brenda said: "I was seriously shocked when my name was read out for the award and I was really touched that my fellow Kumon Instructors and Associates had nominated me. I have worked hard to continually develop my centre and make sure that I'm always looking for ways to make my centre better, so that I can give my students the best possible chance of succeeding. Having been an Instructor for only a few years I could not have achieved any of this on my own and I am very lucky to have such great support from Kumon staff and my fellow Instructors."

Kumon is one of the leading after-school education providers in the UK and Ireland, offering both maths and English programmes for children. Kumon's expanding network of franchisees work for themselves, but certainly not by themselves.
