"It is highly rewarding to be a part of young people's success and to hear reports from school of how they are advancing and often outperforming their peers."
Cath Muscroft, Instructor of the Golborne Study Centre

Local Kumon students recognised at London awards ceremony

On Sunday 29 November, Kumon students from across the UK will attend a prestigious awards ceremony at London's Imperial College and receive recognition for their outstanding achievements on Kumon's maths and English programmes. Over 400 high-level students will come together at the event, which marks a high point in Kumon's annual calendar and celebrates the exceptional dedication and impressive accomplishments of all these talented and inspirational students.

Proud parents and Kumon Instructors will also attend the occasion, which takes place in the Great Hall from 11am–12.30pm. Over 100 students will receive special awards in recognition of their success; many of these have gone on to study well above their school level, boosting their confidence and ability as they apply themselves to daily Kumon worksheets.

During the ceremony, former Kumon student Victoria Rolfe will give a presentation about how her experiences on the maths programme assisted her with work at Oxford, and most recently with obtaining a job as an actuary in the City.

She says:
"I started Kumon when I was six. I had always enjoyed maths but wasn't being challenged at school. It was then that my mum came across Kumon, and as there wasn't a centre nearby she decided to start a class. At school, Kumon gave me confidence in my own abilities and equipped me to meet challenges in the classroom. Then, when I got to Oxford I saw how useful the skills I'd learned could be; at Kumon I had practised self-discipline and perseverance, and these enabled me to study independently. Now I work as an actuary, but the lessons I learned at Kumon continue to be as relevant and valuable as ever."

Maria Michael, Completer of the English programme, will also speak about her Kumon journey, and how she came to be the confident and successful student she is today.

After the ceremony, students and their guests will be able to mingle with each other in the Tower Rooms, exchanging stories from their study centre and enjoying a drinks reception and buffet.
