"It is highly rewarding to be a part of young people's success and to hear reports from school of how they are advancing and often outperforming their peers."

On Saturday 16 January, Kumon students from across North London will attend an awards ceremony at the Artsdepot in North Finchley. They will receive awards and certificates for their outstanding achievements on Kumon's maths and English programmes.
Proud parents and local Kumon Instructors will also attend the event, which takes place from 3.30pm-5.15pm. 129 students will attend the event and receive special certificates and prizes in recognition of their success; many of these have gone on to study well above their school level, boosting their confidence and ability as they apply themselves to daily Kumon worksheets.
Nine Kumon study centres from the North London region have worked together to organise this special event to highlight their students' achievements. The centres involved are: Whetstone, Barnet, Potters Bar, Finchley High Road, East Finchley, Brondesbury, Stoke Newington, St John's Wood and Islington. There are more than 600 Kumon study centres across the UK and Ireland, with around 58,000 students nationwide.
The ceremony will include speeches from a number of Kumon students and Kumon's Educational Development Manager John Flint. In addition, Kumon parent and Lecturer of Politics at Sussex University, Professor Shamit Saggar, will address the audience.
Fifteen year old Kumon student Janaka Sumanasekera from East Barnet will MC the event, and also talk about his experiences on the Kumon programme.
Janaka says:
"I started the Kumon maths programme whilst in year two and I am still going strong in year eleven. The reason for my success is largely due to the immense support from both Michelle, my Kumon Instructor, and my parents, who kept me on track and persuaded me to carry on with the programme. Kumon has not only helped me in maths, but it has also helped me hone my self learning skills, perseverance and speed in almost all aspects across the board, both academic and non-academic; especially music and sport."
Sixteen year old Kumon student Anouska Khimasia from Hadley Wood will also be speaking at the event to encourage other students to complete the Kumon programme.
Anouska says:
"I am striving to complete the Kumon programme. It is important to continue with it, as even though it has taken time, I have never wanted to stop building on my maths skills and now I do not want to stop Kumon until I have completed it."
