"I find schoolwork easier to understand and complete. My mental arithmetic has improved and I can do my sums in my head."
Peter Rogers (aged 9), Yate Study Centre

Kumon in Schools

'Put simply, personalising learning and teaching means taking a highly structured and responsive approach to each child's learning, in order that all are able to progress, achieve and participate.'

The Gilbert Report: A Vision of Teaching and Learning in 2020

The quotation above is only one recent example of a wide range of education initiatives and research advocating a greater use of personalised learning programmes. While there are concerns – over cost, availability of skilled staff and the long term resilience of such interventions, for example – there is a surprising level of political and professional agreement on this issue. Whatever else the educational future holds, it seems the individualised learning agenda is here to stay.

And the heart of that agenda is the heart of the Kumon philosophy – the desire to create new generations of independent learners, confident children who take pride in their own studies, set their own goals and continue to learn throughout their lives. For fifty years – across the world – we have made that vision a reality for 22 million children in 46 countries. Now we aspire to bring this tried and tested strategy, which works in harmony with school curricula throughout the world, within reach of a much wider audience here in the UK and Ireland.

To achieve that, we are developing a sustainable and cost-effective model that enables us to work in partnership with schools, to share our specialist expertise in nurturing independent learners, and to develop the potential of every child whatever their current ability.

So whatever your plans and ambitions for your school, we invite you to meet and talk to us, to visit a Kumon centre and to discuss with us in detail the best way to work in partnership.
