Kumon Tadworth Study Centre has been serving the community since 1999 under Louise Lung and is now managed and supervised by Sheona Sequeira, a qualified Kumon instructor.

Overseen by Sheona, we have friendly, trained and approachable members of staff, who support students’ development, both from an academic and self-learning skills perspective. All members of staff have an enhanced DBS certification.

The Kumon programme is ideal for students who find English or maths challenging at school. It’s ideal for those looking to enhance their numerical skills, and for students who need to develop their reading and comprehension skills. Unlike traditional tuition providers, this programme encourages students to self-learn under positive supervision. It stimulates each child to pursue their potential, making them confident and independent learners.

To begin with, we assess the child at their current ability, then we set them off on their own individualised study plan, which caters to their specific needs.

Newly enrolled students are closely monitored and encouraged to develop their self-learning and verification skills until they’re able to work independently.

We have dedicated staff members in charge of the early learners, and one-on-one support is provided to develop children's pencil skills, posture, momentum and stamina.

We also work with children who have special educational needs, providing one-on-one teaching and support.

We have an open-door policy both for kids and parents to express their views on what went well and how we can improve our services. Each year we hold a ceremony to celebrate and recognise our students’ outstanding achievements.

About the Instructor

Hello, I am Sheona Sequeira, a Kumon Instructor. Having grown up in a family of educators, I was always encouraged to think creatively and to be an independent learner and an effective communicator. As a result of this environment and upbringing, I developed an intense desire to understand how children learn and behave.

Having completed my dual master’s in commerce and finance, mathematics has always been my passion. This passion only grew stronger over the past year as I was preparing my daughter and her friends for their 11+ exams. The outstanding results they achieved motivated me further and it was then that I realised I wanted to work with young minds and encourage them to reach their full potential.

As I explored options on how best to channel this passion, I found Kumon to be the perfect choice. Having seen the positive impact Kumon has had on so many children is just unbelievable. It not only upskills the child’s academic levels, but also fine tunes their cognitive skills, which builds on their ability to self-learn, self-correct, focus, concentrate and develop a keen desire to learn more.

Every day I feel motivated by the smiles on children's faces as they achieve small successes and leave the class feeling happy, smarter and more special. My greatest desire is to ensure that each student at the Kumon Tadworth Study Centre is valued and supported to enable them to reach their maximum ability.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Tadworth centre. Together we can ensure that your child is getting the best support and develops a positive attitude towards learning.

I hope you will enjoy being a part of our Kumon family.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
