About this centre

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes offer what traditional tuition gives to your child and more. Kumon goes one step further by helping each child develop self-learning skills, enabling them to tackle challenging work without reliance on a teacher. Our aim is to help any child of any ability to progress and develop a curiosity and love for learning.

Your local Instructor will set work for your child at just the right level, enabling them to build confidence in their abilities and progress their maths and English skills in small, manageable steps through daily study. They will visit their local study centre up to twice a week for sessions with their Instructor. This allows the Instructor to tailor and adapt each child’s study plan to their abilities, through observing their progress and fluency at each level. Our study programmes are individualised to each child to help them establish strong learning foundations and a positive learning experience, to build skills and confidence for their future.

My name is Helene Anderson, and I am a former award-winning journalist, web developer and pre-school drama teacher. I moved to London from New Zealand in 2001 and have been Instructor of the Chingford Study Centre since 2004.

With three daughters still in education, I have been passionate about all aspects of learning for many years and keep myself fully informed on educational issues and standards in the UK and worldwide. My commitment to ensuring all children have the opportunity to fulfil their educational needs led me to become a school governor in 2008.

Since becoming a Kumon Instructor, I have witnessed the power of the individualised programmes that have enabled students struggling at school to make dramatic progress in both English and maths. Equally, the Chingford Study Centre has always had highly-able students working several years ahead of their school level.

I have assembled a highly-regarded team of dedicated assistants to help me support the students on class days. Outside of the study sessions, I keep parents fully informed of their child’s progress and answer any queries they may have during the week.

Please call me to discuss how the Kumon Maths and English Programmes can help your child.
