Kumon provides worksheet-based, individualised maths and English (reading) programmes for students of all ages and abilities. The Kumon learning method uses a systematic and individualized approach that helps children develop a solid command of maths and English.Through daily practice and mastery of materials, students increase in confidence, improve their concentration and develop better study skills.

The Kumon Colindale Study Centre opened in 2003 and has become an essential part of the community. The centre has helped over 500 local children achieve their potential with the programmes. Currently, the youngest student at the centre is four years old and the eldest student is 14 years old. Students should typically expect to study for at least one to two years to develop lasting benefits, with a number of students having been enrolled at the centre for over three years.

The majority of students live locally and attend local schools. Some come from the neighbouring localities of Colindale including Hendon, Kingsbury, West Hendon, Burnt Oak. Visits to the centre are on a 'drop-in' basis and last between 30 to 40 minutes per subject; parents are welcome to wait in the library during this time.

About the Instructor

My name is AdeKunbi Adubifa and I have been the Instructor at the Kumon Colindale Study Centre since 2010.

I have a background in IT and started my tutoring journey over 25 years ago. Throughout this time, I have enjoyed working with students and preparing them specifically for their 11+, SATs, GCSEs, IGCSEs and A-levels. I love the satisfaction that comes from seeing my students do well!

When I came across Kumon, I was struck by how it provided individualised learning plans which meant children weren’t held back by only studying the material their school year covered. I love watching my students progress step-by-step, and I encourage them to celebrate their achievements as they make regular progress.

I am passionate about the Kumon programmes, having witnessed their effectiveness. I firmly believe in personalised learning and prioritising the cultivation of robust study skills. I feel fortunate to be in a position to guide students of diverse abilities towards reaching their maximum potential and help them build confidence and fluency.

My goal at the centre is to foster joyful, self-assured students who are capable of independently exploring new realms of learning and working above their school grade level.

We’ve joined Kumon last June 2023, if I’ve just know that there is a Kumon centre near to our place (kumon colindale) may be I have enrolled my daughter long time ago. Ms Adekunbi is fantastic and doing a good job, she deals with all the questions and problems even out of working hours. Kumon app is very good, it helps my daughter a lot. I highly recommended kumon to all parents to help their kids in their math problems, its like another helping hand for every child.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
