The Kumon Edmonton Study Centre was first established in 1992, and provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. Currently students at the centre range in age from four to 14 years old and come from schools in the local area as well as those further afield.
At the Edmonton study centre, we aim to provide the very best service for students and their families. We are a centre of exceptional excellence and continue to develop independent learning in all our students. Students are supported in class by a team of 11 assistants, who have in-depth knowledge and experience of the Kumon programmes. They have been carefully trained to show a duty of care to all students.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and all other aspects of adult life.
My name is Pew Kan and I am the Instructor at the Edmonton Study Centre.
Before becoming an Instructor, I worked as an engineer for many years, which involved the constant use of high-level maths. As I had a passion for algebra, I was always looking for opportunities to give back to the community, to help others and to help raise the student success rate within my local area.
I had heard about Kumon through my sister-in-law and, after doing some of my own research, I realised that I could put my passion for maths and reading into practice.
The most rewarding element of my role is watching the students develop their skills and progress onto working beyond their school level. It makes me very proud to receive great feedback from past and present students and their families on the support and dedication they have received from myself and my team.
My two children studied Kumon for a number of years and I can certainly say that both benefitted. It has been a joy to watch them grow, become more confident and learn life skills that they will carry with them.
My aim as an Instructor is to provide a consistent and positive environment, and to help each child realise their full potential.
