About this centre

The centre was established in 2008 and moved into permanent premises in 2012. There are number of local primary and secondary schools within close proximity of the centre.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The youngest student currently studying at the centre is three years old and the oldest is 16, however the Kumon programmes are suitable for students of all ages and abilities.

The Instructor is supported by a team of five class assistants who are responsible for a number of duties to support student’s development. Two of the class assistants are Kumon students who have studied the higher levels of the programmes.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

My name is Debi O'Connor and I run the Hartlepool Study Centre. Prior to opening the Hartlepool centre, I worked at a local primary school as a Teaching Assistant supporting several year groups and delivering the curriculum to pupils. I was also involved in delivering maths and literacy programmes throughout the school working with a range of differing abilities.

I am very committed to ensuring that every child in my centre develops to their full potential. I am experienced in working with students of all ages and abilities to enable them to overcome any difficulties. I was interested in the Kumon programmes because they offer the opportunity for every child to work at their own pace and their own level of understanding and this is something that I believe is invaluable in supporting a child's education. I find my role as a Kumon Instructor extremely rewarding and I love to hear how students have progressed in school through their work at Kumon.

My aim for the Hartlepool Study Centre is to promote a nurturing environment of growth and understanding for my students. The centre enrols students all year round. For further information, an informal chat or to visit the centre, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
