About this centre

The Kumon Ilkley Study Centre was established in 2011. The venue is easily accessible by public transport and on foot and is a short walk from many of the local schools.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. The youngest student currently studying at the centre is four years old and the oldest is currently 14 years old, however Kumon is for students of all ages and abilities. Many of the students that attend the study centre also attend the local schools.

There are a dedicated team of class assistants at the centre, including the senior class assistant who is a retired primary teacher that brings her wealth and experience of working with children to the centre. The assistants work closely with the Instructor to ensure that all students are fully supported.

Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and all other aspects of adult life.

Hello, my name is Sara Muir.

I first heard of Kumon when my friend enrolled her children with Kumon and I saw the benefits of both the maths and English programmes. This prompted me to research Kumon further and also encouraged me to enrol my own daughter onto the maths programme where I quickly began to see an improvement in her multiplication skills.

I became aware that there was an opportunity in Ilkley to become a Kumon Instructor and felt that this was a fantastic opportunity for me to potentially bring Kumon to the local community. I also felt that this fitted in with my educational background.

It is so rewarding and motivational when I see my student’s confidence and skills improve and any anxieties reduce; this includes all of my students, several of whom have educational statements. Communication from the parents of my students has indicated that Kumon has supported them in their school studies and parents are always proud when they come to tell me that their child has moved up a set at school.
