About this centre

Ofsted Registered

Established in 2012, the Kumon Jesmond Study Centre is located in permanent premises with bright, modern, purpose-built classrooms, providing a quiet and motivating learning environment for students. There is a waiting room for parents with refreshments, free wi-fi and activities to keep younger siblings occupied.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Current students at the centre range from three to 16 years old.

Students are supported in class by a team of assistants. The Instructor and senior assistants are at the centre throughout the day, so parents may arrange to call in to discuss their child’s progress.

Through daily study, both at the centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

There are four class days a week to choose from, and children under five may attend outside normal class times by prior arrangement. All students are encouraged to attend twice a week to receive the full benefits of the Kumon programmes and they are usually in the centre for around 30 minutes per subject studied.

Students attend the Jesmond Study Centre from local schools and those further afield.

Hello, my name is Natalie Taylor and I’m the Instructor at the Kumon Jesmond Study Centre.

OriginalIy from Liverpool, I’ve lived in Jesmond for over 20 years since coming to Newcastle to study at university. I obtained a first class degree in Mathematics and went on to teach maths in secondary schools before opening the Kumon Jesmond Study Centre in September 2012.

Being a Kumon Instructor is a fantastic job. It's wonderful to see children grow in confidence when they can do something they once found difficult. Every one of my students is wonderfully unique and it is so rewarding to see them develop as individuals who can organise and prioritise their time, and manage their Kumon homework around their schoolwork; skills which are invaluable at school, university and beyond.

Having instructed hundreds of students and observed their maths, English, concentration and study skills improve, I’m continually impressed by what children can achieve once they’ve been given the necessary skills.

In January 2015, we moved from a local church hall to our current commercial premises. We have excellent facilities with lots of class sessions to choose from.

I look forward to working with you and your children to help them reach their full potential.
