About this centre

The centre was established in 2012 and is situated in the heart of the Glenfield region of Leicester.

Kumon is suitable for all ages and the study centre currently has a range of infant, primary, and secondary age students; the majority of whom study both the English and maths programmes.

The centre places a big emphasis on reading for joy as well as for comprehension. There is a range of books at the centre that students can read to complement their worksheet study.

There are three assistants at the centre who actively support students' learning and who work alongside the Instructor. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and other aspects of adult life.

My name is Vijay Shukla and I am the Instructor at the Leicester, Glenfield Study Centre. I have an extensive professional background as a primary and secondary teacher.

My main motivation for becoming a Kumon Instructor was to have more time to develop students' learning and enjoy the growth of their unlimited potential. Even during my teaching career, I was actively looking for a better system, a more efficient system which could also allow students to learn at their pace and is truly individualised.

I especially treasure those moments when I see Kumon students with that joy and excitement of having understood or worked out a difficult question, a challenging word or mastered a new method of calculation! Truly, with Kumon, the sky is the limit for every student's capability development irrespective of their age, experience and any special needs. A student can start even if they are in pre-school.

I believe in developing wholesome professional relationships with my Kumon parents and treating them as 'a family' so that they feel able to approach me for any of their queries, questions and suggestions. Together everyone achieves more!
