About this centre

The Kumon Linlithgow Study Centre opened in 2003, and welcomes students of all ages and abilities from Linlithgow and the surrounding areas.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and are able to face unfamiliar work.

The centre focuses on developing excellent study skills as an integral part of the Kumon programmes. Students attend the centre for approximately half-an-hour per subject up to twice a week, and are supported by a team of highly trained and enthusiastic staff.

The Instructor and centre staff have a great deal of experience working with pre-school children as well as older learners; current students at the centre range in age from four to 16 years old. We have a receptionist who gives a warm welcome to students and families, and parents are welcome to wait in the foyer while their children are in class.

My name is Alison Maternaghan and I am the Instructor of the Kumon Linlithgow Study Centre. I recently took over the centre after working there for seven years.

I first started as a class assistant in 2009 at the Linlithgow and Livingston centres whilst still at Linlithgow Academy. I returned to Kumon in 2014 to work full-time as Assistant Manager for Linlithgow and Livingston.

I was now seeing both sides of the business; spending time with students at the classes and keeping busy in the office. The dedication and knowledge that goes in to every class inspired me to learn as much as I could. I was now involved with setting study plans, reviewing completed worksheets, keeping in close contact with parents and much more. I was spending time getting to know all the students and families and also completed Instructor training in London throughout 2016.

It is an incredibly rewarding job and I get so much enjoyment from working with students and helping them gain confidence through studying the Kumon programmes.

I also thoroughly enjoy meeting families and keeping a close relationship with parents to ensure my students always have a study plan that’s best for them.

I look forward to welcoming you to my study centre.
