The Kumon Peterborough Hampton Study Centre opened in 2016 and offers maths and English study programmes for students of varying ages and abilities. Students attend the centre for approximately 20-30 minutes per subject once or twice a week. The current age range of students at the centre is from 5 to 15 years old.

Similar to other tuition providers, the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go a step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, necessary for school, university, employment and other aspects of adult life. This is achieved through daily study of the unique Kumon worksheets – with instruction at the study centre and independent work at home.

Our dedicated team of eight staff are committed to creating a nurturing learning environment where each child develops into a confident, self-motivated, and capable learner. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

My name is Tayo Agboola. I am the Instructor at the Peterborough Hampton Study Centre. I qualified as an architect and worked many years before re-training as an educator (when I became a mother). I worked in this capacity for over fifteen years in schools and higher education across London, Lincolnshire, and Cambridgeshire.

Coming from a family of educators, it was important to me that my sons developed the habit and love of learning early; so, their first toys were books and we were off to Kumon as soon as they could count!

I am fortunate to experience the Kumon programme from the perspective of a parent and an Instructor. Helping a child start to learn, understand a piece of work, master the piece of work, then confidently tackle other work on their own is incredibly gratifying.
The skills I have watched children develop from Kumon surpasses just the academic. Skills such as concentration, time management, problem solving, and discipline – are transferable to many other areas of life.

How long does study take?

The time taken to complete a day's work may be around 30 minutes per subject. The study time is down to each individual and their current study level. Class times displayed may include a combination of in-centre and online class sessions. Please contact your Instructor for further details.

My daughter has been with this centre since she was 4 years old . Tayo has been an excellent teacher and so supportive. My daughter has gained so much from her time doing kumon not just academically but with her confidence too and again I attribute this to Tayo and her very helpful staff. My son started Kumon in 2016, He was struggling to do the maths and even won't pay attention to read his books. He progressed a lot in the last 6 years, he is now in Year 5. We have been very lucky as Tayo is amazing, hard-working and caring. We have always received feedback and followed a learning path through his assessments. During the pandemic, we have received lots of support which keeps him going when their schools are shut. We would recommend Kumon Hampton Centre to any students.

My son started Hampton Kumon in 2016 when he was in Year 3. As a result of moving from another country he had skipped Year 2 so as parents we wanted him to catch up with the current curriculum. First, I talked with the instructor of the centre on the phone; very lovely, professional and welcoming person named Tayo, than she made an assessment and told us how Kumon works and how we can benefit from it, later we decided to start to the centre! And wowww, now it has been 5 years; my son is in Year 7 and he has been a very committed Kumon student! In Year 3 within few months he had already caught up with the curriculum but it was him who wanted to move on with the Kumon:) He told us that mathematics was very easy and fun with Kumon, his approach to daily activities all included maths as he learned very practical skills with Kumon, and he even started to support some of his class mates during the school studies. He has been very open to solve problems, operations and equations as Kumon encouraged him and improved his confidence through mathematical perceptions. Lastly, I have to mention that as we all know students love the subject as much as they can relate to the teacher and their attitude towards teaching and their character. At this point, I have to say we have been very lucky as Tayo is an amazing, hard working, attentive and caring instructor!There is a one-to-one very strong follow up with student's learning and their progress. We have always received regular feedbacks and followed a learning path through those assessments. I would recommend Kumon Hampton Centre to any students at the end of their school journey as an early intervention! My son and we will always be grateful for the contributions Kumon has made in our lives...

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
