About this centre

The centre provides maths and English programmes for students of all ages and abilities. There is a team of dedicated assistants on hand to assist students when required.

Kumon caters for all ages and abilities; the youngest child at the centre is currently three years of age and the oldest is 16. Many of the children have been with the centre for several years and have grown to work independently and confidently, which has enabled many of the children to reach and stay in the top sets at school.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Unlike the process of a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.

I am Siva Selvakumaran and I would like to introduce myself as the Instructor at the Pontyclun Study Centre. I have been running the study centre for over seven years. The skills I gained from my Engineering degree and my 15 years of experience in the engineering field have helped me greatly in my role as a Kumon Instructor.

I am also a Kumon mum. My daughter started Kumon when she was four years old and benefited tremendously from the Kumon programmes. She became an independent self-learner, with a passion for learning and growing. I am now an advocate of Kumon, having been entirely satisfied with the Kumon programmes and method.

Stepping into the role of a Kumon Instructor was a natural transition for me and has given me the opportunity to help children reach their potential in these areas of crucial importance. The pure joy of seeing a child develop into a confident self-learner and achieve their maximum potential through committing to study a little bit every day is very rewarding and is what encouraged me to run a Kumon study centre.

Through running my centre, I have seen how much children can improve in their studies. It is very impressive to see their progress when they begin to show commitment towards their work.
