About this centre

The opened in 2000 and is an established and thriving part of the community in Sandy. The centre attracts students from the local neighbourhood and students also travel from Biggleswade, Potton and surrounding villages.

The centre welcomes students of all ages and abilities and encourages the study of the Kumon maths and English programmes in a structured, caring, and supportive environment. Many of the students have been studying at the centre for a number of years and, at present, they range in ages from four to 16 years old.

The centre’s aim is to value every student as an individual and do their best to develop their full potential. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.

I first became acquainted with the Kumon Method in 1996 in North London where we were living. We were looking for additional support for our six year old daughter who we believed was not getting enough mathematical experience in her local school.

We enrolled her at our local centre in Whetstone where she flourished, developing not just mathematical skills but positive lifelong attitudes to good study and concentration. She later followed the English programme as well. These skills stood her in a good advantage to go on to study at university. The Kumon approach of manageable amounts of work completed daily under the watchful supervision of an experienced Kumon Instructor have been of enormous benefit to her.

I decided I would like to offer the Kumon experience to students where I was living, and so opened the centre in Sandy. I have taken great pleasure and pride in working with students ranging in age from three to 17 years old. My students have been of all ability levels. Many of my students have worked with me for a number of years.

As a Kumon Instructor, I consider myself to be an important part of the local community and always strive to do my best for students who take up the Kumon Method of Learning.
