The Kumon Skipton Study Centre was first established in 2002 and has been run by the current Instructor since September 2010. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Students at the centre are of all ages and abilities; the youngest student at the centre is currently three years old and the oldest student is 16.
Within the classroom itself there is a separate area for newly enrolled students and early learners (very young children). These students work closely with dedicated class assistants on the skills table until they develop good study skills. Once these skills have been developed, the students then work independently in a separate area of the class.
Along with the Instructor, there is a senior class assistant and several class assistants who mark work, record homework and listen to students read and practise their times tables. Some of the class assistants are previous Kumon students who have studied the Kumon programmes to a high level.
Initially each child is given an assessment, the programme is explained in more detail and a study plan is made, which allows the student to build on their current skills, further their knowledge and excel both inside and outside the classroom. Children can attend the centre once or twice a week.
My name is Diane Bayliff and I am the Instructor at the Skipton Study Centre.
I am passionate about education and fully believe that Kumon can help children to develop their potential in maths and English and to become more confident individuals. Since taking over in September 2010, the study centre has grown from around 20 students to around 90.
I have found my new role as a Kumon Instructor extremely enjoyable and very rewarding. The most fulfilling part of being a Kumon Instructor is seeing the children grow in ability and confidence in class but also finding out from parents that they have made huge progress at school or are simply much more confident!
Over the years I have seen many children thrive at Kumon. One of my first students used to really struggle at maths at primary school; she is now working several years above her school level and is top of the class in year 9 at a local grammar school. I am immensely proud of the progress that all my students have made.
I look forward to welcoming you and your child to the Skipton Study Centre. Please don't hesitate to get in touch for further information.
