The centre was established in 1996 and has since helped hundreds of children fulfil their true potential in both maths and English.
Staff at the study centre are all fully DBS checked and have received comprehensive training. Kumon is suitable for all ages, and students at the centre are currently aged from two to 17 years old.
One-to-one supervision is provided for new and young students whilst their study skills are developed. The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Students enjoy attending the centre once or twice weekly throughout the year. The atmosphere in class is relaxed and friendly and new students quickly realise that learning the Kumon way can be fun. Students enjoy additional activities after they have finished their class work, such as times tables challenges, spelling games, sentence construction games and reading out loud.
Similar to other tuition providers the Kumon programmes focus on essential academic skills, but we go one step further by developing a child’s independent study skills, needed for school, university, employment and all other aspects of adult life.
My name is Debbie Lunt and I have been the Instructor at the Southport Study Centre since 2003.
I was determined to give my children the best quality educational opportunities I could find, and so it was as a parent I had my first experience of Kumon. I enrolled my children onto the programmes in 1997 and witnessed their study skills develop and their confidence increase. I then began thinking about becoming an Instructor myself.
My job as an Instructor is to make sure every child at my centre is given individual attention, understands their goals and is working at the right level for their needs. I get immense satisfaction from watching my students develop and start to study beyond their school level. The best parts of my day are the many occasions when a student comes to tell me that they have moved up a set in school, or put their hand up in class for maybe the first time or completed a piece of work without asking for help.
