The Kumon Winchester Study Centre was established in 1996. Students are allocated a set time of arrival when they register, and usually spend between 40 and 60 minutes in the centre per subject.
Kumon is an individualised programme suitable for children of all ages and abilities. Students at the centre vary in age from five to 18 years old and some have been studying with Kumon for over 12 years.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
Along with the Instructor, Rachel Reeve, the centre's team of ten trained assistants are on hand to provide guidance where necessary. Students see the Instructor before they leave for the chance to talk about their progress and goals, reassess their abilities and to be given appropriate feedback and praise for their achievements at every visit.
Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
My name is Rachel Reeve and I have been a Kumon Instructor in Winchester since 1996.
Being a Kumon parent, I understood first-hand the benefits of long-term Kumon study. Every day I am impressed by the power and flexibility of the Kumon programmes! It is very exciting to be able to help those students who are struggling with their school lessons, as well as challenging those students who are excelling in maths and English. I love the opportunity to be involved with the education of individual students over many years, often seeing them develop their skills from Primary school to GCSE level and beyond.
At the 20th Anniversary Instructor conference held in Brighton in 2011, I received an award for the longest Average Length of Stay for students studying the English programme. I have also received awards for nurturing Completers for the maths and English programmes, as well as long-service awards which I feel celebrate the commitment I dedicate to my centre.
My staff at the centre and I work hard to ensure that all the students develop their maths and English skills as well as learning to be confident, independent learners. I would therefore like to publicly thank all my staff for helping to make the Winchester Study Centre a success.
