Launched in 2014, the Kumon Addlestone Study Centre is based in The King’s Centre. We welcome students of all ages and abilities and our current students range in age from four to 16 years old.

Following a free assessment, your child will start studying at a point that is suited to their individual needs and academic ability. Using individualised study programmes, Kumon will help your child to master maths and English and develop a positive, confident and independent approach to learning. Students attend the study centre once a week and are given an appropriate amount of homework to study at home each day.

Kumon Addlestone staff are all highly trained and are committed to each student’s success. All members of staff have enhanced DBS certification and some members of staff have experienced Kumon directly as students.

The unique Kumon Maths and English programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.

Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.

Did you know, you can now study Kumon digitally? This study centre is proud to offer KUMON CONNECT. Click here for more details.

As an Ofsted registered centre, parents can make considerable savings through the various schemes.

About the Instructor

Hello, I am Cara and I would like to welcome you to the Kumon Addlestone Study Centre. I have been the Instructor at the centre since we opened in 2014.

Having grown up in a family of teachers, I have always had a deep interest in education and how children learn. I passionately believe in the importance of students having the right study skills as well as self-confidence and an enjoyment of learning. One of my two daughters studies the Kumon programmes, so I know as a parent how the Kumon method can help to develop a child’s confidence, focus and overall attitude toward learning, in addition to developing their academic skills.

It is incredibly rewarding as an Instructor to see how students can benefit from their Kumon study, seeing them develop their understanding and independence. Students often come into class and tell me, with great excitement, how well they have performed in a recent school maths/English test or that they have been awarded a special prize at school in recognition of their academic achievement.

I very much look forward to welcoming you and your family to the Addlestone centre. I hope you will enjoy being a part of our Kumon family.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
