About this centre
The centre provides a motivating learning environment for students of all ages and abilities. At the Crystal Palace Study Centre, there is a bright spacious classroom, which lends itself to a good learning environment for the students.
Meetings with the Instructor on student progress, work allocation, enrolments and any general issues take place at the centre outside of class hours, by appointment only. There is a strong community approach within the centre and it accommodates students of all ages and abilities, of which many attend a wide selection of the local schools.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. Kumon should not be considered a traditional tuition provider as, rather than ‘teaching’ students, we encourage them to become independent learners who feel confident in their own abilities and able to face unfamiliar work.
Hello I am Helen Sims; I made a very big career change from being a Marketing and Business Development Manager within the professional service industry to become a Kumon Instructor. I decided to utilise my experience and qualification in business along with a diploma in Coaching and Motivation to work for myself and provide a worthwhile opportunity to the community.
I am very keen to be able to work with children of all ages and abilities and I strongly believe that with just a little bit of the right support a student can be nurtured to reach their potential. Some students just need more time to go back over the basics, something which Kumon excels at.
The programme is suitable for all ages, at all levels, from gifted children who want to go further, to children with learning difficulties who need a little bit more help and all those in between. From pre-schoolers to secondary school age and even adults!
For further information or if you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact me for an informal chat.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
