Lola has been a Kumon Instructor for 12 years

After 12 years running from a community hall, Lola Ottun has moved her Kumon Lower Sydenham Study Centre into a permanent and spacious premises on Sydenham Road, south-east London.

Lola is thrilled, for not only does her new custom-designed venue offer a more motivating learning environment to existing students, but it’s prominent and established location provides greater accessibility and flexibility to other local parents looking to further support their child’s education.

Having supported hundreds of children over the years, Lola is excited to be able to provide many more families the opportunity to experience the Kumon programmes for themselves and reap the benefits.

Lola Ottun explained: “My interest in the Kumon programmes was initially roused when two of my own children, Zainab and Jamal enrolled at Kumon. Seeing the progress and achievements they made within as little as six months impressed me and sparked my curiosity in becoming a Kumon Instructor myself.

“I was a maths teacher with 17 years’ experience - and here was something that was making a real impact on children’s understanding and enjoyment of maths and English.

“Over the last 12 years of running my centre I have seen the positive impact the Kumon programmes have had on the large number of students I have nurtured over the years. Moving into a new spacious, permanent venue has been very rewarding because I want to expand the centre to be able to offer the Kumon programmes to many more families. I strongly believe that all children should have the opportunity to excel and fulfil their potential - my motto being ‘Every Child Can Shine’.

“With the support of my experienced assistants, I am afforded the opportunity to get to know each student and their parents by working with them to help each child to develop, not only in maths and English but also their study skills, concentration, motivation and confidence.

“It is wonderful to see students blossom and flourish in their studies and it gives me the greatest pleasure to develop students’ love of learning. I am looking forward to many more successful years of nurturing more students in the Sydenham local communities.”
