The Kumon Gorleston Study Centre, sister-centre to the Kumon Norwich Study Centre, opened its doors in February 2025. Both centres share the same team, philosophy and passion for developing students of all ages and abilities into independent, advanced learners through the Kumon Method of Learning.

Our centre leaders – Sam, Sara, Pinks and Jamie – are experienced and dedicated educators. Unlike traditional tuition providers who ‘teach’, we nurture our students to become independent and empowered learners who feel confident in their own abilities to face unfamiliar work. By taking their learning journey into their own hands, our students are motivated to progress and succeed – enthused by new topics and challenges.

Each child is different, so we ensure all our students are able to develop with the programmes individualised to suit their precise needs. The mastery of fundamental study skills this imparts encourages children and gives them a hunger to learn more.

Please note: new student enrolments for Kumon Gorleston may take place at the Kumon Norwich Study Centre. When booking your Free Assessment, please consider the venue address and attend that which is listed for your scheduled booking.

About the Instructor

Gorleston - Samantha Rudgley
My name is Sam Rudgley and I am the Instructor leading both the Kumon Norwich and Kumon Gorleston Study Centres. My Kumon journey began over ten years ago when, in January 2015, I joined the Kumon headquarters in London as an Area Manager. In this role, I supported 25 study centres across North London and the East of England, working closely with Instructors and their students. It was only a matter of time until I decided to run a centre of my own!

Before Kumon, my professional life was dedicated to the teaching and development of others. I am a certified secondary school English teacher, having earned both my Bachelors and Masters in the Literary Arts. I also spent five years in the publishing and language services sector, where my role as a manager always focused on discovering the potential of each member of my team.

I draw from my experience and make sure this ethos runs strong in both the Kumon Norwich and Kumon Gorleston Study Centres. Every child’s needs are unique and, therefore, each journey through the Kumon programmes is different. It is my duty, and my joy, to help you and your child find the right path that leads to academic success!

The Kumon Norwich and Kumon Gorleston Study Centres share an amazing team of leaders. Sara Cordy, our Chief Centre Operator, is my deputy. She joined the Kumon Norwich Team in 2019 and has just as much passion for the Kumon Method as I do. Supporting us are two dynamic and impactful educators, Pinks Raja and Jamie Allin. As a leadership team, we work together to support and celebrate our students across Norwich and Gorleston.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
