About this centre

KUMON CONNECT available In-Centre Class available Online Class available
After an initial assessment undertaken by the Instructor, your child’s starting point will be determined and that will allow the Instructor to develop an individualised study programme, tailored to support your child’s individual needs. Your child can attend the centre up to twice a week where the class assistants and Instructor will observe their learning growth and support their study session where necessary and then set work accordingly. They will be given daily worksheets to complete at home to help develop fluency and to build on the concepts from the class session.

At the Kumon Tudor Grange Centre, the assistants and Instructor are extremely passionate about supporting students throughout their individual learning journey. We provide structured guidance and continuous encouragement to enable students to achieve their long term goals.  We always aim to work hard in order to develop speed, stamina and accuracy throughout their ‘just right’ level of study, progressing swiftly onto developing high levels of ability and commitment to studying advanced work.

Our core belief at the heart of Kumon Tudor Grange is that with our specialised instruction and support, we can instil a deep desire in your child to want to study the Kumon programme. By developing children’s academic ability, work attitude and study skills, our goal is to enable all Kumon students to become independent learners so that they can comfortably study ahead of their school grade.

About the Instructor

My name is Shehzadi Majid (Shez). I have worked in teaching for over 20 years. I have taught as a secondary science teacher for 12 years, teaching biology and chemistry up to A-level standard. When my children started primary school I re-trained and taught at primary school level for 10 years. My purpose in life has always been to educate and prepare young minds for the future. I have a firm belief that education is a lifelong journey and that it never stops. Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.

My personal Kumon journey began when my 3 young children started the maths and English programme. Throughout their 6 years of study I became mesmerised and intrigued by how the Kumon methodology enabled them to make tremendous progress at school and remain at the top of their class, consistently, every academic year. Simultaneously, I observed my children become more organised, committed and highly motivated to daily study whilst completing all of their daily tasks.

The individualised concept of the programme, with daily homework, ensured that my children continuously reached their maximum potential. This is the fundamental reason why I made the transition from a classroom teacher to a Kumon Instructor. I want to be able to offer the Kumon programme to as many students as possible. I want to be able to enjoy being a very hands-on, on-going part of that exciting journey, watching them flourish and develop their skills and abilities.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
