About our centre

Thursday Class - 4.30pm to 6.30pm - Online Only

The Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes enable children of any age and ability to develop key foundations for learning. Our unique study method focuses on enabling children to work independently, giving them confidence in their abilities. They progress through small steps to gradually develop ability and fluency before moving on to the next topic. Kumon study is not based on school curriculum or age, allowing children the flexibility to revisit and build skills where they need to and progress beyond school level where their ability allows. Unlike traditional tuition, Kumon study fosters students’ skill in self-learning, building confidence and lessening reliance on a teacher.

Your child will be assessed to enable their Instructor to set work at just the right level for them. Through daily worksheet study they develop ability and fluency. Your child will visit their local study centre for study sessions up to twice a week, where their Instructor will observe their learning growth and set work accordingly. Kumon’s aim is to develop each child into a confident, independent and enthusiastic learner.

Manisha Kalsi

About your Instructor

Hello, my name is Manisha Kalsi, and I’m proud to be the Instructor at the Kumon Sunbury Study Centre.

Kumon has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started the programme at just four years old and continued into my teens, gaining not only strong academic skills, but also the confidence, independence, and self-belief that have shaped who I am today. More recently, I’ve supported my niece on her Kumon journey and watched those same qualities grow in her too.

Before opening the centre, I worked as a Business Analyst in the public sector, improving systems that made a difference to people’s lives. But I wanted to do something more personal—something that directly helps children build the skills and mindset to thrive. Kumon was the natural next step.

At the Sunbury Centre, children always come first. My aim is to create a space where learning feels encouraging, not overwhelming—and where children feel genuinely proud of what they achieve. I want the centre to be a place they look forward to coming to, where each small step forward is celebrated, and confidence grows with every worksheet.

What makes Kumon special is how it supports children to become independent learners—not just through repetition, but through routine, resilience, and tailored support. Every child moves at their own pace, and I’m here to help guide and challenge them along the way.

As a parent, you’ll be an active part of that journey. I value open communication and will work closely with you to ensure you feel informed, involved, and confident in your child’s progress.

If you’re looking for a centre that puts your child’s growth and confidence at the heart of everything, I’d be delighted to welcome you to Kumon Sunbury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
