KUMON CONNECT available Online Class available In-Centre Class available
Come and join us at Kumon Thanet! We have just opened our doors this summer, 2021, in the heart of Thanet at St. Peters Church Hall. Classes can take place at the centre or in the comfort of your home through an online session once a week.

Children of all ages and abilities are welcome to join this exciting learning journey. You will be invited for a free assessment, ensuring the Instructor can understand your child’s strengths and areas of development, therefore setting work at the correct level for your child. Kumon study is not based on school curriculum or age, allowing children the flexibility to revisit and build upon skills, as well as progress beyond school level where their ability allows. Your child will progress through small steps to gradually develop fluency before moving on to the next topic.

The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes maximise the potential of your child by developing self-assured, independent learners through individualised study. Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands so they can work at a level that is just right for them, increasing their motivation to succeed.

At the Kumon centre, or during an online class, students enjoy completing their work and are observed by the Instructor who offers appropriate guidance, support, and praise. During each class, a student will spend approximately 30 minutes on each subject and up to an hour for both English and maths. After the class, each student is given daily worksheets to be completed at home, to maintain a level of development each day.

Kumon aims to develop your child into a confident, enthusiastic, and independent learner, who will thrive to reach their full potential.

About the Instructor

Welcome. My name is Esther Paynter and I am excited to be the Instructor of the Kumon Thanet Study Centre. With over 14 years of teaching experience, and as a dedicated and passionate educator, I will guide your child on a focused and rewarding learning journey, to maximise their potential.

My teaching experience extends across many age groups and abilities, both here in England and abroad. For the past five years, I have also worked as a SENCO, which has given me a great understanding of all specific learning difficulties that can act as barriers for students. These skills allow me to fully understand how a child learns best and I can easily adjust my instructions and guidance to best support a child.

With my passion in teaching and building confidence in students, I was excited to become a Kumon Instructor to develop a more individualised learning programme for children to work independently and extend their learning beyond the classroom at a level and pace that is just right for them. As an Instructor, it is extremely rewarding to witness the sense of achievement that a student gains when mastering a new topic or skill.

I am delighted to be running Kumon centre, here in the heart of Thanet, to bring the internationally renowned programme to the local area. Please get in touch to see how we can help your child reach their full potential.

Popular Questions

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
