“I cannot thank Kumon enough for the help and support it has given me in both maths and English.”

12-year-old Reuben Mathew began on the Kumon Maths Programme at the Kumon Warrington, Great Sankey Study Centre in November 2007, enrolling on the Kumon English Programme soon after in January 2008.

On the English programme, Reuben began on the word building levels, before working his way up to completion of the programme in September 2014, where he learnt how to critique texts from authors such as Coleridge. On the maths programme, Reuben began on number writing, mental addition and subtraction and is currently on level K, studying functions.

Reuben spoke to us about how Kumon has helped him with both his maths and English, including how it has taken him from needing help to winning maths competitions.

Reuben said: “I cannot thank Kumon enough for the help and support it has given me in both maths and English. I started Kumon when I was six and since then my knowledge in both subjects has vastly improved. Kumon is what gave me self-confidence, independence and commitment to my work in school as well as out of school.

“Kumon has provided me with the basic building blocks to maths and English that are so crucial to studies and later life. Now I have gone from ‘the kid who needed help’ to winning my primary maths cup, being entered into the maths challenge in Year 7, and now in Year 8 I have been asked to teach quadratic equations to sixth formers in my secondary school. I know that these basics are what will help me reach my goal of becoming a mathematician. Thank you Kumon!”

Reuben’s parents say: “The reason we chose Kumon, like many other parents, is to give that extra dimension to their education with goal-oriented self-study. Kumon feels so familiar to those of us who were taught mathematics in a structured and logical way in our own childhood.”

Well done to Reuben for completing the English programme, and we look forward to seeing his journey on the maths programme continue!
