About our centre

This centre runs online classes on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Kumon Hitchin Study Centre reopened in 2023 at a new location and under new management. We offer Kumon Maths and English study programmes for students of all ages and abilities, using the unique Kumon Method to help every child develop their skills and reach their full potential.

Unlike traditional tuition, the Kumon Method encourages students to take ownership of their learning and become independent learners. With guidance, support and encouragement from my team and me, each student is supported in developing confidence, self-discipline and problem-solving skills through incremental, self-motivated study.

In addition to traditional paper worksheets, we are proud to offer KUMON CONNECT, a digital learning option that allows students to complete their work using a tablet and stylus.

Our centre has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and we take pride in creating an environment where every student feels encouraged, valued and motivated to progress at their own pace.

About your Instructor

With a teaching background and over nine years of experience working with Kumon, I am proud to be part of the world’s largest supplementary education provider. As the Instructor at the Kumon Hitchin Study Centre, I am passionate about helping children in my local community discover their potential, build confidence and develop the skills they need to achieve their goals.

What I value most about the unique Kumon Method is its individualised approach to learning. I appreciate how it allows children of all ages and abilities to follow a programme tailored to their needs and progress at their own pace. By mastering each step before moving on to the next, I see students gradually build their knowledge, strengthen their skills and develop the confidence to take on new challenges independently.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is seeing the smiles on children’s faces when they tackle a challenging question and solve it on their own. I encourage my students to use contextual clues, apply their existing knowledge and think critically to find solutions independently. Watching them overcome challenges and recognise their own progress reinforces my belief in the importance of nurturing independent learning.

My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where every child feels encouraged to persevere, celebrates their achievements and develops a genuine love of learning. I believe that by building strong foundations and fostering independence, I can help my students grow into confident, self-motivated learners who are equipped to reach their full potential.

Both, and every child in between. This is because of our individualised approach to education, which always asks the question: "What is best for this individual child?" Following a diagnostic test, a study plan is set to develop the ability of the child and to progress them beyond the Kumon International Standard (an international approximation of their school level) regardless of their starting point. Kumon welcomes students with special educational needs, gifted and talented children, and all those who believe they can achieve more and fulfil their potential.

Kumon is a self-learning programme with each student receiving regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, either in the centre or their online class, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.

Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.

As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.

As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
