Welcome to the Kumon West Bridgford Study Centre.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study. We firmly believe there is no limit to learning, irrespective of age or ability and as such we work closely with students to enable them to reach their full potential.
The class has a simple layout which ensures students experience a calm and quiet atmosphere and that they are equipped with all the facilities and tools they need to develop independence, confidence and invaluable study skills.
Unlike a traditional tuition provider, Kumon encourages students to take their learning into their own hands. The role of the Kumon Instructor is to provide guidance, support and encouragement, allowing the student to develop their own independent learning strategies.
My name is Naheed Khan and I am the Instructor at the Kumon West Bridgford Study Centre.
My Kumon journey began when my eldest niece started her Kumon journey over 15 years ago, for a number of years. I was responsible for taking her to and from her classes and over time, as I saw her mental maths and language skills develop to a high level, I became curious about the programme itself. My niece went on to pass her entrance exams for a prestigious private girls’ school here in Nottingham and is now a university graduate and attributes her solid foundations to Kumon.
Since this time, all of the children in our family have studied with Kumon in Nottingham and other cities- some have been better students than others, but all of them have benefited from the programme. It is fair to say that we are a Kumon family through and through.
It is also fair to say that I was a Kumon parent long before I became a Kumon Instructor when I opened my centre in 2016.
Before becoming a Kumon Instructor, my professional life had been dedicated to developing communication and efficiency operations in large blue-chip organisations around the world, whereby systems and teams are developed to reach the best possible outcome.
However, it was time for me to use my skills and apply it to something I was able to take pride in. I enjoy seeing the positive effect I make in someone’s life and so I set up my centre in 2016.
At the West Bridgford study centre, it is very exciting to be able to help students who are struggling at school, as well as challenging those students who are excelling. Every child’s needs are unique and therefore, each journey through the Kumon programmes is different. It is extremely rewarding to design the right path for you and your child – this is why I love what I do. However, the most rewarding part of my role is seeing years of hard work and dedication paying off when a student completes the programme.

Most Popular Questions
Kumon is a self-learning programme but each student receives regular support from their Instructor. The carefully developed worksheets teach students how to find the answer for themselves, whilst their Instructor offers guidance when necessary. The key role of each Kumon Instructor is to observe their students working, making sure that work is set at the right level and that they are developing at the right pace.
Students can start learning with Kumon from age two upwards. We currently have students as young as two years old studying with us, ranging all the way up to those about to go to university; Kumon helps children of any age and any ability. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can start developing skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit; as soon as you feel your family is ready to make the commitment to long-term study, Kumon will be ready to help you achieve your goal.
Kumon offers much more than tutoring and differs from traditional teaching in the classroom. Rather than preparing children for a particular test or assessment, Kumon empowers students to learn for themselves, through individualised instruction and carefully developed worksheets.
As well as developing key skills in maths and English, each Kumon student will work towards building their independent learning skills and confidence in their own abilities. This means that a Kumon student will not be dependent on – or limited by – the skills and knowledge of others.
As a global programme, Kumon does not follow a school curriculum, but rather is complementary to curricula across the world. The primary aim of the Kumon Method is to develop independent learning skills. These independent learning skills enhance the students’ performance right across the school curriculum. Kumon operates at exactly the right level for each student – regardless of their age – ensuring that work set extends and develops their skills, confidence and ability.
